| A detail of Alaska jumpers journeyed to Nez Perce Country in August, 2003. Led by acting base manager Robin Embry, the Grangeville crew welcomed the Alaskans, whose trip was a season highlight. Dry lightning visited Region 1 throughout fire season, leaving many unstaffed fires in it's wake. The steep terrain and contiguous forests bordering Grangeville present challenges for both round and square paracutes. Together, 'mixed' loads of BLM and USFS jumpers staffed fires and projects into September. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
