ALASKA VILLAGES - WILDFIRE REFRESHER TRAINING 2003
About one hundred native villages prepare for fire season in Alaska each spring. Before organizing into one or more 20-person Type 2 crews, each candidate must pass a fireline refresher course and the pack test; walking 3 miles in 45 minutes or less while carrying 45 lbs. Fire suppression specialists, hot shots and smokejumpers help facilitate this training, flying to remote villages in the interior and coastal regions throughout April and May. |
