SMOKEJUMPERS: PAGE 301
2008 - EAST SLIDE ROCK RIDGE FIRE JUMP - JARBIDGE N.F. NEVADA
In August, four BLM Smokejumpers were called to remote Nevada. Our assignment - jump into a wilderness meadow (8,500 ft. elevation), set up camp, and regularly observe and record daily weather and fire behavior. We were to prepare for the arrival of a Fire Use Module from Utah. No suppression efforts were to be made. The flames had crept and crawled throughout 1000 acres of rocky, rugged landscape. Our supplies would be delivered by horse pack-team. Freshwater springs lined the creekbeds.
