2023 KENTUCKY Spring Wildfires
Kentucky has two wildfire seasons, one in spring, one in fall.
My task force responded to three human-caused wildfires in April.
The Natural Bridge Fire burned just 150 acres, but cliffs and rimrock made firefighting challenging. The "Sky Lift" helped move crews and their gear to the top, sparing some of us the hour-plus hike. Other hazards included rattlesnakes and disease-carrying ticks, in a beautiful place, and the farthest east I've fought wildfires.
